Best Of Youtube: Contouring and Blush

I love this, I found it so helpful and it's not too long. Unfortunately she does use nearly all MAC products which cannot be got in Waterford and are expensive, but it's easy to find generic products from the Natural Collection in Boots of NYC collection in Sam McCauley's.

Concealers 101

Stick Concealers

BAD. They are bad news. Every time you use it to cover a spot, you're rubbing the bacteria from that spot onto other parts of your face. Gross yeah? However, if you have bought one, do not despair. I've found that a stick concealer makes a great eyeshadow primer and they're much cheaper that the real thing.
Under Eye Concealers

They can be tricky. The best one around is of course, Yves Saint Laurent, which is quite expensive but worth every penny. Natural Collection also do a version which I, being a penniless student, use. There's one pretty serious flaw with it though, no matter what number you buy, they're all the same colour. I bought the lightest one and it's still several shades darker than my foundation.
When using under eye concealers, only use a rice size piece under each eye, then blend with a make up sponge/brush. Other wise it's just too thick and can look cakey and ageing.
Palette Concealers

Again, they have the carrying infection risk. Always use a brush for palettes and clean they brush at least once a week.
The big advantage of palette concealers is that there's lots of colours with different tinges and hues. A green tinged concealer is great for covering up redness while a salmon-y concealer will cover up purple blemishes like under eye circles.

Item Of The Day

A|Wear, €20.00

Oh wow, don't you just want it? I know, it's white which attracts the dirt, BUT it's PVC, so you can just wipe it clean. Yay!

Best Of Youtube: Nails

I use this method myself, I definitely think it's the easiest and cheapest. You don't need tape or templates or anything fancy, just a base colour, a colour for the tips, clear nail polish and a steady hand.

Street Style, Waterford

Si Vous 'Plait'

Front plaits dominated in Winter '09 and it's a trend that looks set to stay. It's a great boho look that's handy for keeping hair out of your face, or disguise things if your hair's a little greasy.

Here's how you can get the look:

  1. Separate your fringe from the rest of you hair, brush through to get rid of any tangles.

  2. Begin to French braid using three bunches of hair, it doesn't matter if it's not perfect, the messier the better for this look.

  3. Plait all the way down and secure plait with an elastic.

  4. Tuck the plait behind your ear and hide it under the rest of your hair, securing at the base of your neck with a bobby pin.

Body Con 101

Body Con was brought to an unsuspecting world by Posh's BFF Herve Leger, stylist to the stars. I know it's a scary trend that looks set to stay. But it is wearable, and not only by turn sideways and you disappear stick people.

They can be very flattering on the average person as they are tight and suck everything in and smooth down. Pouring yourself into a dress that will show your every lump and bump seems a daunting idea so avoid a full bandage dress unless you've got the attitude to rock it. A body con skirt is a perfect compromise that almost anyone can pull off.

Tips:

  • Make sure and team your body con skirt with some killer heels, to avoid the dreaded 'cankles'.
  • Balance out a tight skirt with a loose top. This is a strong look in itself, so don't over do the accessories.
  • A statement necklace or some chunky bangles will do just fine.
  • A blazer or biker jacket is a great cover up for a body con dress.

Ticking all the body con 'Do' boxes is the lovely Maria Heffernan, Queen of looking good on a budget, who teamed an electric blue body con skirt with a large black and grey floral print top

Save Vs Splurge: Mascara

Save:

Boots Natural Collection Lash Build Mascara

Price: €2.26

Pros: It's cheap, obvz. I actually only bought this mascara in desperation because I needed one and had no money. I've found it really good. It lengthens and thickens. It's not clumpy once you apply it right, it doesn't smudge and it's easy to take off. The packaging is nice, simple and pretty.

Cons: The wand itself can get a bit gooey at the top, which means it's hard to do your corners. It also doesn't apply that well to your bottom lashes either, but that's a small consolidation.

Splurge
:

Maybelline New York The Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof

Price: €7.93

Pros: As far as mascaras go, it's not that expensive. The packaging is also nice and futuristic. When they say water proof they mean waterproof, so if the summer ever comes this is a beach bag must have.

Cons: This has been voted the world's No.1 mascara and I can't understand why. It's clumpy and damn near impossible to get off, even with eye make up remover. It takes at least four coats to get it's full effect which means it doesn't last that long. It thickens lashes at the base but does little to lengthen. It also has a weird smell, kind of like play-doh.

Product Review

So, I've been using Neutrogena Visibly Clear moisturiser for about four months now. I got it in Boots and it's a steal at least than a fiver.

I bought it because I needed an oil free moisturiser, my skin is pretty oily, and I wanted one that would even out my skin tone. It has done just that. I've noticed a big difference since I started using it, and I'd highly recommend. It soaks in instantly and it's not greasy in any way. Great value for money, it lasts ages.

Rating: ****

Katy Perry 'If We Ever Meet Again'

The song itself is catchy but not great. But her make up is fantastic, I'm thinking of it for my debs. It's pretty much smoky eye 101. I'm sorry I couldn't find a clearer picture, but I did find a great tutorial that I hope is of help.
